Media Literacy

The other day in class we watched 2 very interesting videos in media studies 120. The videos were about what is media literacy, and the other was media literacy education and choice. The first video I will be discussing is "What is Media Literacy?". we learned about how to read about the media, how the media has over 3000 advertisements a day so they can try and bring people in to buy new things, and that the media has a lot of financial needs. The second video was called "Media Literacy - Education and Choice"; it was about how we should know who made the video, media ca be dangerous, and they try to gain profit and or power. Even looking around the classroom i can see so many different advertisements such as Fox, Bass Pro Shops, Hollister, HP, and etc.

  1. I liked how you stated about seeing advertisements around the classroom, and the points you used.

  2. The idea of being exposed to 3000 ads a days seems excessive, but like you mention, even in one space out of many you encounter each day we can find tons of ad examples. I imagine the exposure is greater in some areas than others. I would think if you lived in a large city versus a rural community, you would be exposed to more, given billboards, stores, promotional signs on everything from vehicles to buildings.
